Hi, I’m Deborah

I’ve been where you are — and I know the way through.

I help individuals lose weight, take control of their health, and reverse chronic diseases like diabetes and hypertension through healthy, sustainable lifestyle change.

I’m a Board-Certified Nurse Practitioner and a Diplomate of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine (DipACLM) with over 15 years of experience in healthcare, currently based in San Francisco, California.

My lifelong passion for helping people reach their health goals is rooted in my own childhood and adolescent weight struggles. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology/Exercise Science, a second bachelor’s in Nursing, and a Master of Science in Nursing. My clinical background spans neurology, acute stroke, trauma, cardiology, geriatrics, primary care, lifestyle-focused cardiac rehabilitation, and psychiatry.

Throughout my career, my favorite thing has always been educating and empowering patients. From weekly one-to-one calls to practical meal ideas and community group support, I blend evidence-based guidance with down-to-earth support so you never feel alone on the path to better health. Together we’ll celebrate small wins, tackle roadblocks, and keep wellness feeling doable — and even fun.

Questions & answers

You might be wondering…

Straight answers about diabetes remission, medications, and what coaching with me actually looks like. Still curious? Just book a free consultation.

Yes — for many people. Remission means your A1c returns to a non-diabetic range without the need for diabetes medications. Research shows that intensive lifestyle change, especially a whole-food, plant-predominant diet and meaningful weight loss, can achieve remission in a meaningful share of people with type 2 diabetes. The Renew program is built around exactly this evidence. Your results depend on where you start, how long you’ve had diabetes, and how consistently you apply the changes — and we’ll track your labs together so you can see the progress.

Never on your own. Any change to your medications happens in partnership with you and, when needed, your prescribing provider. As your habits and numbers improve, we use your lab results to guide safe, gradual adjustments. Many of my patients do reduce or eliminate medications over time — but always carefully, clinically, and with monitoring. The goal is the lowest effective dose, not an abrupt stop.

We meet regularly — usually weekly — to review your labs, medications, and how the week went, then adjust your plan so it fits your real life. You get practical meal ideas, grocery strategies, and honest accountability between sessions. In the Renew program, those one-to-one check-ins sit alongside shared medical appointments and hands-on teaching kitchens, so you’re supported from every angle. It’s clinical guidance plus down-to-earth encouragement — never judgment.

No. The approach is plant-forward, not rigid. We focus on adding more whole, plant-based foods — vegetables, fruits, legumes, whole grains — rather than obsessing over what to cut out. You’ll learn budget-friendly swaps and cooking skills that make this doable and genuinely enjoyable, whatever your starting point.

That’s common, and the same lifestyle change helps. Plant-forward living also lowers blood pressure, improves cholesterol, supports weight loss, and reduces inflammation — so people with hypertension, heart disease, or metabolic concerns often see benefits across the board. My background spans cardiology, neurology, primary care, and lifestyle-focused cardiac rehab, so we take your full health picture into account.

I’m based in San Francisco, and sessions are conducted virtually so you can take part from wherever you are. The Renew program’s group visits and teaching kitchens run online too, which keeps the community accessible. If you have a specific preference, we’ll sort it out in your consultation.

Client stories

Real people, real results

I first started a plant-based diet under Deborah's guidance in December 2023. Although quite embarrassed and nervous because my A1C was well above seven, I was soon put at ease by Deborah's non-judgmental and supportive manner. Deborah provided community support, recipe suggestions, and other nutritional education.

With her help I was able to get and maintain my A1C under 5.7. Now I am no longer on diabetes or cholesterol medications.
